iMAGes — line, colour and time
When do a few lines and planes of colour become an image? In Gavriil Krishtal’s work, you can observe this transition: first you see rhythm and form, then recognise a house, a human figure, a street at night.
Gavriil began iMAGes as a teenager, creating drawings in Macromedia Flash. The original files and website have not survived. An archive of 33 images became the foundation of today’s gallery — a record of the artist’s early digital language.
Today, he returns to this series to share his experience and gather other people’s impressions. The encounter with the viewer continues the story of the works: images familiar to the artist may stir someone else’s memories, evoke an unexpected association, or draw attention to a detail that previously went unnoticed.
You can watch the image emerge or explore it through touch. Musical responses add rhythm to colour and line. Pausing lets you linger on an intermediate state, while viewing again lets you notice a different connection between details. The artist’s composition defines the whole; the viewer finds their own path to it.
iMAGes brings together two moments in time: the creation of the early drawings and the encounter with them today. The preserved image lives on in the viewer’s experience — in what they notice first, what they wait for, and what they return to.
Choose one work. Watch it unfold, then explore it on your own. What did you notice first? What impression remained once the image was complete?
